GEA Niro is a world leader in industrial drying and supplies process units
and complete process lines for powder production to the food, dairy,
pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. The company was founded as Niro
Atomizer A/S in 1933 by Johan Ernst Nyrop and quickly became a world leader in
industrial drying, with spray drying, freeze drying, and fluid bed processing
as core technologies.
In the 1990s Niro dropped "Atomizer" from the company name and in 1993 the
Niro Group was acquired by the German GEA Group and began to co-operate closely
with other GEA companies specialising in process technology and engineering. In
July 2008 Niro A/S changed its name to GEA Niro.
The company is located in Soeborg, Copenhagen. Having installed more than
10,000 plants around the globe, GEA Niro is known for delivering solutions that
meet customers’ exact requirements. Many of the world's leading manufacturers
have chosen GEA Niro’s drying technology for their production of dairy and
food, chemicals and pharmaceuticals powders. Some of these products are
manufactured in a single plant, others in a fully engineered process line
designed and installed by GEA Niro in collaboration with leading suppliers of
auxiliary equipment.
The company is the headquarters of GEA Process Engineering and has
subsidiaries and representatives in more than 50 countries. In Soeborg, about
450 employees are engaged in the design, engineering, and sales of processing
plants.
