GEA Levati Food Tech is a member of the GEA Process Engineering
segment of the GEA Group. The company specialises in the innovation, design,
manufacture and supply of retorts and associated handling equipment for the
safe and effective sterilization and pasteurization of in-container food
products. Products handled include: baby food, pet food, vegetables, meat,
beverages, sea food and ready-to-eat meals.
Levati Food Tech was established in 1966 as a manufacturer of preparation
& handling systems for fruit and vegetable processing lines. The next
milestone in the company’s history was the development of static retorts for
in-container vegetable sterilization. In cooperation with important Italian
food companies the first rotary sterilizer was introduced in 1974, and in 1983
Levati Food Tech delivered the first completely automated batch retort system.
In 1999 Levati Food Tech was acquired by the Procomac Group and joined in
2007 the Process Engineering Segment of the GEA Group under the name GEA Levati
Food Tech.
In 2011, GEA Levati launched a new concept in rotary retorts: the SRC (System Rotary Combined). The SRC is the first ever
rotary retort to have both fixed and rotating water jets to minimise processing
time. It represents just the next stage of GEA Levati’s programme of continual
innovation.
GEA Levati operates from its new head office in Sala Baganza (Parma), Italy.
